"Educating Owners to Create Smart Dogs"

Training for Behavior Modification

Is your dog showing signs of aggression?

Are you starting to see signs that your dog is in charge?

What is Behavior Modification?

Behavior modification is taking an unwanted behavior and replacing it with a behavior that is acceptable or stopping an inappropriate behavior. Someone along the way said that a dog's only fault is that they die too soon. This makes sense since the dog's life span is much shorter than ours. However, if you speak to someone who is living with a dog with behavior problems I doubt that they would agree with that line of thought.

Most owners have encountered behavioral problems with their dogs. These problems range from ones that are tolerable or perhaps even a little endearing to those that are so severe that the dog is relinquished to a shelter or euthanized. When dealing with negative or unwanted behaviors, we need to first investigate why those behaviors occur. Based on those findings, we need to initiate a plan that will help to change the unwanted behaviors into ones that are acceptable.

Kim excels at getting the owner to understand how a dog thinks. It is essential for the owner to take the lead role in guiding the dog towards success. Getting rid of unwanted behaviors will require a program consisting of training, reshaping behaviors and finding methods that work for each dog and owner team.

Kim works closely with the owner and dog to tailor a program that will provide the training skills necessary to change unwanted behaviors. When possible, Kim works in conjunction with other pet professionals, such as your veterinarian or groomer, to provide a comprehensive and complete program to promote change. The change should not be a temporary one, but a change that will last for the life of the dog.
